Counting

Alexis has been counting from 1 to 10 for a while now. Recently we've been working on counting to 20. This is how it goes:

Me: Eleven Alexis: Eleven

Twelve...twelve

Thirteen...thirteen

Fourteen...fourteen

Fifteen...fifteen

Sixteen...sixteen

Seventeen...seventeen

Eighteen...eighteen

Nineteen...nineteen

Twenty...twentyteen!

I personally think it's pretty darn cute! After about 5 times of me saying twenty and her saying twentyteen, she will finally say twenty and then we have a big laugh about it!

This is a developmental thing. In other languages (most Asian ones) the word for 20 is two ten, and the words for the teens are one and ten, two and ten, three and ten... which makes a lot more sense than English with these crazy teen vocabularly!

I bet when you teach her numbers written, she will also have a hard time with place value with the teens and twenties. Its so confusing for little kids who are just getting their number sense!
